KENT CICHLID BUFFER 250G
Description: Automatic pH buffer and alkalinity or carbonate hardness (KH) adjusting system designed for African Cichlids and other rift lake fishes. Also works well for many American Cichlids whose native waters have high pH's of above 7.8. Provides a stable pH environment. Dissolves instantly with little or no precipitation. Compatible with and designed for use with A F Cichlid Chemistry and A F Cichlid Rift Lake Trace Elements by Kent Marine. Free of polluting nitrates, phosphates, and organic chemicals! Does not contain silicates which can encourage ugly diatom growth, like competing products do!
Directions: Read the considerations for use section below. First, for initial setup, or for water changes, use A F Cichlid Chemistry by Kent as directed on its label. Then dissolve one teaspoon (6 grams) of A F Cichlid Buffer (this product) in a glass of fresh water. Add directly to tank for each 10-20 gallons (40 to 80 liters) of tank capacity each day until the desired alkalinity is reached.
Considerations for use: For initial setup, or for water changes, use A F Cichlid Chemistry by Kent as directed on its label. Then dissolve one teaspoon (6 grams) of A F Cichlid Buffer (this product) in a glass of fresh water. Add directly to tank for each 10-20 gallons (40 to 80 liters) of tank capacity each day until the desired alkalinity is reached. This is recommended to be 175 to 225 ppm or 10o to 12 o dKH (Karbonathaerte or German degrees of carbonate hardness). Next: Wait at least 24 hours for pH to stabilize and measure. It is unlikely pH will need adjustment, but, it can be lowered with phosphate free pH CONTROL MINUS or raised with phosphate free pH CONTROL PLUS. A F Cichlid Buffer will resist fluctuations in pH to provide a more stable environment for the fish.
Recommended pH is 8.2 to 8.6 for mixed Africans, 7.8 to 8.6 for Malawi Cichlids, 8.4 to 9.2 for Tanganyika Cichlids, and 7.8 to 9.0 for Victoria Cichlids.
After target alkalinity and pH are reached, use at 2 week intervals to maintain proper values.
Use Kent A F Cichlid Rift Lake Trace Elements regularly to replace minerals lost to filtration and removed by inhabitants.
Kent spirulina rich Freshwater Zoe added to food will supply needed vitamins.
